Dubai Food – RARE Camel Platter – WHOLE Camel w/ Rice + Eggs – Traditional Emirati Cuisine in UAE!

multilingual No Comments »

My new blog: https://travelsecurely.com
Dubai Food is incredibly delicious! Check out https://ExpressVPN.com/thefoodranger for 3 months free w/ 1 year pack and 49% OFF! We visited Dubai in the UAE to try some traditional Emirati Cuisine, and joined up with our friend Peyman to eat a whole camel platter with rice and eggs!

►Check out Peyman’s Channel Here: http://bit.ly/PeymanSubscribe

► The BEST VPNs for China:
https://www.thefoodranger.com/best-vpn-for-china/

This is a traditional Emirati meal that is usually reserved for special occasions or very exclusive guests. It’s not a normal Dubai Street Food, but that’s why it’s so good. It is an extremely rare Arab food nowadays! You have to be incredibly lucky to experience this whole camel platter! This is definitely one of the must try foods in Dubai! It is a traditional Emirati food and is one of the best things to do in Dubai. Camel meat is something that may be sensitive to some viewers, so make sure you’re comfortable with watching the camel cooking! The chefs who prepared the camel recipe were originally from the South of India in Kerala, but have been living in Dubai for over 20 years.

If you’re thinking of traveling to Dubai for a food trip, you can’t go wrong, there is so much delicious Emirati cuisine and amazing street food to try! I must admit, most of the food is in Dubai restaurants that are clean and quiet, but that is part of the charm of Dubai.

First, Peyman and I checked out the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, and then made our way to the one and only Camel Restaurant, address below:

Entire Camel Platter in Dubai: Zaman Awal Restaurant
Address: Al Boom Village, Dubai, UAE, United Arab Emirates

If you’re wondering if you should eat street food in Dubai or go for regular restaurants in Dubai, I recommend mixing it up and going for both. In this food video, we are solely visiting one of the best restaurants in dubai for the whole camel plate.

Arabic Literature in Translation — Reem Bassiouney, M Lynx Qualey, Lydia Wilson & Faisal Al Yafai

multilingual No Comments »

The Arab world has a rich literary heritage and a vibrant contemporary literary scene that has attracted many English speaking readers — Arabic is one of the 10 most translated languages for American audiences. But the process of translation is complex and often politically fraught.

In this podcast, Reem Bassiouney, sociolinguistics professor and award-winning author of “Sons of the People: The Mamluk Trilogy,” and M Lynx Qualey, editor of ArabLit.org, join New Lines’ Lydia Wilson and Faisal Al Yafai to discuss the many challenges of translating Arabic literature.

Translation, they explain, requires managing many, often contradictory goals. It is not just a matter of translating the literal meaning of the words on the page. A good translation must also preserve elements of a writer’s style, as well as idioms and cultural references that are unfamiliar to readers in other languages.

When this is done well, translators act as bridges between cultures. But that comes with a darker side: Many Arab writers have had their words changed and their meanings twisted by publishers more interested in confirming readers’ preconceived notions than remaining faithful to a work’s original meaning.

As M Lynx Qualey explains, a translator is in “both this low-paying, low-prestige position but also a position in which they do wield a lot of power. It’s sort of a contradictory position, I think.”
