It’s difficult to truly understand the gap and the differences between fusha Arabic and colloquial Arabic without going through the long process of learning them both as a non-native speaker.
I try to simplify it here and explain that you may encounter a certain reaction from Arabs when speaking and using the fusha Arabic that you’ve learned from a book.
This is not to say you shouldn’t learn fusha Arabic – I believe quite the opposite – but be prepared and be aware that after you have got a good grasp of the language, learn some colloquialisms and local slang phrases to soften the formalities.
